We All Stand Together

Watching the music video of Sir Paul McCartney’s ‘We All Stand Together’ is great for a trip down that good old memory lane. Ah I do remember loving this as a child! What a classic…click here to see it on youtube, enjoy! Tx

Long fishy tails & braided plaits

Finally I learnt how to construct a fishtail plait – mini triumph, happiness all round! - oh the joys of the littlest things in life should not be taken for granted and I was very grateful to the extra friendly and oh so lovely hair stylist for showing me how to construct one, without even batting an eyelid. She is my newest hairdresser, sorry senior stylist (and I mean new as I am continuously trying out new hairdressing salons, I can never seem to find a GREAT hairdresser at an even greater price!) But Frankee was lovely. She was mid highlight and foil application when I mentioned that the one thing I had never attempted  was a fishtail plait. ‘Never!?’ she exclaimed. ‘It’s soooo easy’ she insisted and proceeded to show me. Yes it is dead easy, embarrassingly easy. Click here to watch a youtube video on how to do it yourself.

Love it ~ plaits are cool, fact.

Please (May) I Not Overindulge Tonight

Please (may) I Not Overindulge Tonight aka P.I.N.O.T ~ ahem, I’m talking about YOU Pinot Grigio!

Ok, I admit it, I enjoy a small glass of wine. Maybe two if I you are offering. I could easily share a bottle with a friend (specifically my Canadian fellow-pinot-grigio -loving-partner-in-crime Nicole), yes ok 2 bottles if we are being reckless, but I swear it does not happen too often…anymore. And of course it is not always very clever behaviour to over do it but as responsible adults why not let your hair down every so often, non?

But there is something about a good white wine. Something about that lingering crisp taste that makes you feel blissfully buzzy and ever more chatty ( I apologise to those you have to deal with my constant talking after a glass or two, eek!)

Says Victoria Moore of The Telegraph… “Pinot grigio, the grape whose success underpins the rising popularity of Italian wine is blissfully innocuous. It makes wines that are almost always white (the grape actually has a pinky-brown skin so you sometimes notice a faint blush to the colour) and crisp with a vestigial taste of citrus and a mild suggestion of stone. In other words, the vinous equivalent of water: so refreshingly easy to drink you can be halfway through the bottle before you’ve noticed what’s going on.”

And so you see, I am grateful to learn that it is not just I who happens to sip a glass of PG quicker than it takes you to pop a cork, there is scientific proof! Aha!Think I’ll be calling Nic to share this info, we knew there had to be a reason for our Pinot-grigio-itis! I’ll get this next round then :)

The Blue Lagoon

“Two children shipwrecked alone on a tropical island. Nature is kind. They thrive on the bounty of jungle and lagoon. The boy grows tall. The girl beautiful. They swim naked over coral reefs. They run in a cathedral of trees. And the warm winds, the tropic moon, the silk sand conspire to enchant them. When their love happens, it is natural as the sea, and as powerful. Love as nature intended to be.

A story of natural love.”

Blue Lagooooon – what a great old classic of a movie! I recently had an urge to re-watch it and promptly ordered it off Lovefilm. I was settled in for a night of movie nostalgia and was not disappointed  – it’s funny how you so fondly remember all those little details (well I speak for myself)…the silly things that were lodged in the back of your brain all those years ago. Like the scarlet berries that put you to sleep if you eat them, the pearl that Richard dives deep into the ocean to retrieve for Emily, the Victorian box of keepsakes – including the lace veil and that postcard camera, it was great seeing all of that again.
And I somehow must have forgotten how BEAUTIFULLY young and dreamy both Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins were. A perfect story that I’m sure for most, leaves you wishing you could pack it all up and head for a deserted island, flight tickets please! And speaking of this deserted island (that’s another one of the main characters – the gorgeous scenery!) I did wonder where this was filmed and read that it was both in Jamaica and on a privately owned island in Fiji (called Nanuya Leu if you must know), lush.

Many movie critics have slated this movie and say it is ‘boring, nonsensical and shows too much skin’ but I beg to differ and think it is highly appealing if you are after a light-hearted film with exquisite photography. It’s even MORE of a pleasure if you had originally watched it back in the 80s. Sentimental much? Yes!
If you have not ever watched it, why not give it a go and get lost in the au naturel  loveliness of this innocent love story…

Under my Umbrella

Tags

Argh! Sometimes the rain makes me want to FREAKOUT when I’m not readily prepared – oooh nothing worse than having to skip, hop & jump between buildings to dodge getting soaked, and let’s not get started about deep puddles & open-toed shoes (instant, ahem, mood dampener!)

Perhaps investing in a statement umbrella would brighten my day, hmmm? Or not, but let’s pretend it will~ and here are a couple for inspiration. Rain? Me? Frustration? Never!

After the Riot Storm

Of course you must have heard about the rioting in London and the rest of England last month – utterly BEWILDERING and terrifying (and if you did not experience it or hear about it, click here to find out more.) I don’t care to comment on this madness but instead choose to share with you a couple heart-warming aftermath pics from this upsetting ordeal.

The Little Dutch Girl

On a recent trip to Amsterdam I came across a quirky local artist called Mariecke Van Der Linden.

Every Sunday at Spui in central Amsterdam you can visit the art market where both Dutch & International artists showcase and sell their work.  There are 60 artists and 25 show their work per week.  What a fantastic way of not only getting to see fantastic local art but being able to meet the artists themselves, chat to them about their influences and buy from them directly.

So there I was, wandering through the stalls when an unusual & charming wee drawing caught my eye.  Immediately appealed to my playful, child-like side. The drawing is what the artist, Mariecke called her ‘Little Dutch Girl’ and she sits on a sheet of paper from an old Dutch psalm book (so old in fact that the Dutch artist herself said she finds it hard to decipher). And so I just HAD to take her home with me, back to London. The little dutch girl, I love her and I enjoy seeying her happily perched on my mantlepiece.
